As part of ECM’s alternative fund platform, our European Special Situations team specialise in helping our clients who seek higher returns in the 12 to 15 per cent bracket. Our team brings our clients a wealth of experience dealing within the special situations, restructuring and distressed space. The strategy aims to provide long-term capital growth by exploiting special situations principally in Europe.

Clients in ECM’s Special Situations team can benefit from best-in-class ideas from all specialist research areas across the firm, including discounted positions in Financials, Loans, High Yield as well as Investment Grade Corporate bonds.

A key benefit for our clients is the fact that ECM’s Special Situations strategy operates within the firm’s established platform, subject to integrated risk management and operational oversight, which we believe is rarely found within the European Special Situations hedge funds universe.

Our Special Situations strategy aims to achieve returns that have a low correlation to the market. This is because:

• The strategy is correlated to events, not the market

• We enter into debt positions at a discount to par, improving upside/downside skew

• Opportunities to go directionally short to express views plus “Tail risk” hedges offer substantial
  protection in disaster scenarios.
